Sainz strikes back
2010 Dakar Rally, 10th stage*
In the 10th stage of the 2010 Dakar Rally, Carlos Sainz responded to the pressure of Nasser Al-Attiyah. So, an exciting battle between the two Volkswagen aces may be expected to take place during the final four stages of the event.
By securing their first stage win, Spaniards Carlos Sainz and Lucas Cruz re-extended their lead in the overall rankings over their two team-mates. Now, the second placed pairing, Nasser Al-Attiyah/Timo Gottschalk (Qatar/Berlin), who had reduced the lead of the Spaniards by nearly six minutes in stage nine, follow 10:06 minutes behind the leaders. The racing was close, in the 238-kilometre stage from La Serena to Santiago. At the end of the day, the maximum gap between two of the first four cars amounted to 1:40 minutes.
