Al-Attiyah chases Sainz

2010 Dakar Rally, 9th stage*

Qatar’s Nasser Al-Attiyah wins the ninth stage of the 2010 Dakar Rally. By doing so, he reduces the lead of his Volkswagen team-mate Carlos Sainz to 8.36 minutes, thus pressurising the Spaniard massively.

In the 2010 Dakar Rally, Qatar’s Nasser Al-Attiyah and his navigator Timo Gottschalk (Berlin) celebrate their third stage win in the event, with their VW Race Touareg. In the stage from Copiapó to La Serena in Chile, they defeated their team-mates Carlos Sainz/Lucas Cruz (both Spain, second) and Giniel de Villiers/Dirk von Zitzewitz (South Africa/Wangels, third). Guerlain Chicherit (France) and co-driver Kristina Thörner (Sweden) came fourth, with their X-Raid BMW X3 CC. While the fourth Race Touareg of Mark Miller/Ralph Pitchford (USA/South Africa) finished fifth, in this special stage.
