VW Race Touareg 2
Peterhansel again blinding fast
2010 Dakar Rally, 8th stage*
With his BMW X3, Stéphane Peterhansel again defeated the Race Touaregs that hold the lead in the 2010 Dakar Rally. At the end of the day, he finished 45 seconds ahead of Sainz who was the fastest of the VW quartet securing the following positions.
On the eighth stage of the 2010 Dakar Rally, from Antofagasta to Copiapó, Volkswagen defended its triple lead in the 2010 Dakar Rally. Carlos Sainz/Lucas Cruz (both Spain) finished second and still hold the lead in the overall rankings, 14:35 minutes ahead of their team-mates Nasser Al-Attiyah/Timo Gottschalk (Qatar/Berlin) and 22:28 minutes ahead of Mark Miller/Ralph Pitchford (USA/South Africa). The man of the day, however, once again was Frenchman Stéphane Peterhansel. The X-Raid driver and his co-driver Jean-Paul Cottret, who previously had lost many positions in the overall standings due to a drive-shaft failure on their BMW X3 CC, finished 45 seconds ahead of the VW pairing Sainz/Cruz. With this success, Peterhansel battled his way back up to now hold fourth position behind the leading Volkswagen trio, some two hours behind the leaders.
