100^th special-stage win for the Race Touareg

In the Russian republic Tatarstan, Volkswagen has celebrated an historic win: the 100th special stage win of the Volkswagen Race Touareg. The jubilee win at the Silk Way was secured by Volkswagen works driver Nasser Al-Attiyah and his German co-driver Timo Gottschalk on the second stage of the Silk Way Rally.

“Just as our historic Dakar win in January, the 100th special-stage win also was made possible – inter alia – by three factors: innovative TDI technology, top-class drivers and co-drivers as well as outstanding engineers and mechanics,” analysed Volkswagen Motorsport Director Kris Nissen.

The second stage took the drivers from Kasan, along the ‘new’ Silk Way over a total distance of 478 kilometres to Bougourouslan. The motorway connection between Eastern Europe and Asia – that still is under construction – represented a part of the special stage.
