VW Race Touareg 2
Win in the Morocco Rally
Engines designed by Spiess-Tuning are not only extremely successful
when it comes to circuit racing. They also celebrate major successes in
off-circuit events such as the Morocco Rally, held from 31st May to 05th
June, 2006. There, Giniel de Villiers and his co-pilot, Dirk von Zitzewitz,
secured their second consecutive win in the FIA Marathon Rally World Cup.
With their Volkswagen Race Touareg 2, the South African and his German
co-driver had won two stages and started the sixth and final day of the
event as leaders in the overall standings. At the end of the 3:11.04-hour
special stage and a total time of 15:02.31 hours, Giniel de Villiers held
a 19.04-minute lead over France's Jean-Luis Schlesser (Schlesser-Ford),
with third place also being secured by a Volkswagen Race Touareg 2: Carlos
Sousa (Portugal) and Andreas Schulz (Germany) crossed the finish line
41.09 minutes behind the leaders.
The five-cylinder TDI in-line engine delivering a massive torque was
designed in the garages of Spiess-Tuning, located in Ditzingen. Here,
the engines for the VW works involvement are prepared. The economical
Diesel engine delivers about 275bhp.
