Success in front of a huge crowd
For the fifth consecutive time, the Chevrolet works squad succeeded
in shining in the 'Buenos Aires 200 km', a round of the Argentinean Touring
Car Championship. Once again, the Chevrolet Astra equipped with a two-litre
Spiess engine made it to the podium: Christian Ledesma and his Swiss team-mate
Alain Menu finished third.
"The race at Buenos Aires represents a season highlight, therefore
nobody was ready to take too many risks in the opening stages," said Argentinean
Ledesma. "With 29 laps completed, I pitted from the safe fifth position to be
replaced by my team-mate, Alain Menu."
Afterwards, the experienced touring-car racing professional Menu
entertained the 70,000 spectators with a great chase. The former STW (German
Super Touring Car Championship) ace battled his way up, with the Astra No 5
- to finish third, in the end. "I'm proud that I had the opportunity to race
for the Chevrolet Team," said the Swiss following the presentation ceremony.
"The entire championship here represents a big party and I'm delighted with
having been involved."
With 8 of the 14 Argentinean Championship (TC2000) rounds contested,
Ledesma holds now third position, just 23 points behind the currently second-placed
driver.
