Perfect Timing
There couldn't have been a better timing: to secure the team's 20th win on 20th May represents a special feat: delivered by Astra driver Christian Ledesma in San Juan, Argentina. "To secure your maiden win and provide the brand with a jubilee triumph at the same time is just fantastic," beamed Ledesma following the race of the Argentinean Touring Car Championship, TC2000.
Still, Ledesma's win wasn't the only achievement the team could celebrate on 20th May in San Juan. After all, his team-mate Matias Rossi finished fourth, thus defending his championship lead. "I scored valuable championship points by finishing fourth," said the reigning champion. "It's a demanding circuit but thanks to the Astra's great competitiveness we succeeded in defending our leads in both the drivers' and the brand championships." By praising his car's competitiveness Rossi also praised one of its crucial components: the powerful 2-litre Opel engine that was perfectly tuned by Spiess Motorenbau GmbH.
"It was an extremely successful weekend for our Chevrolet works squad," concluded Ledesma following the jubilee win. "With my win and Matias' fourth place, the team succeeded in demonstrating its efficiency once again."
