Spiess on target for the championship
Spiess has set course for securing another touring car triumph! With
two more rounds to go in the Argentinean TC2000 Touring Car Championship,
Matias Rossi holds the championship lead with his Chevrolet powered by
a 2-litre Opel-Spiess engine.
Together with his team-mate, Alain Menu, Rossi laid the foundation stone
for his extremely promising position by prevailing in the race held at
Buenos Aires at the last October weekend. The pairing had been only seventh
on the grid for the '200 Kilometres of Buenos Aires', however, it succeeded
in securing the race win in superior style, nevertheless. "What a weekend,"
beamed Rossi. "We won the prestigious 200 kilometres and I managed to
do so together with Alain Menu and Chevrolet, the car brand I'm truly
fond of."
Particularly in the early stages of the race, Matias Rossi displayed
an overwhelming pace and succeeded in taking the lead as early as on lap
five. And when Menu took the wheel of the Chevrolet on lap 15, he also
succeeded in controlling the field. Afterwards, the Swiss was happy and
said: "I'm truly delighted to have been able to contribute to this Chevrolet
win in the most significant race of the Argentinean season."
