Fair show just around the corner

There are things in life that just belong together: Franz Beckenbauer and the German football, for instance, or Michael Schumacher and Ferrari. And the same applies to NSU and the name Spiess. The ‘NSU-Wankel-Spider-Club’ now allowed for this fact. At the Retro Classics held in mid-March in Stuttgart, Siggi Spiess – inter alia NSU tuner and successful racing driver – was the guest of honour at the club’s fair booth. “Our club showcases two milestones of Siegfried Spiess’ career,” explained Ulrich Latus, the club’s chairman, “The successes in the Hill Climb Championship and the renowned racing version of the NSU TT, featuring a lot of technical competence provided by Spiess.”

So, the Retro Classics visitors had the opportunity to once again admire the big number of motor-racing successes achieved by Siggi Spiess: a showcase placed next to the legendary red and white NSU TT was filled with numerous trophies, pictures and motor-racing utensils of the glorious days that represented the basis for the successful Spiess Group.

The transition from the pioneering work in the tuning business and the motor-racing successes of Siggi Spiess to the success of the Ditzingen based company was a smooth one. Today, the Spiess Group with Siggi’s sons Holger and Jürgen at the helm and Siggi himself still being involved as active mentor has established as renowned competence centre for engine design and engine applications. Here, all the tasks are executed by professionals – no matter if it comes to milled special components or to the work on the dynamic state-of-the-art test benches you usually won’t find in independent companies.

So, it comes as no surprise that Ulrich Latus underlined at the fair: “We are really proud of the fact that Siggi Spiess accepted our invitation. After all, he has not only been a constant in the NSU-tuning area but still is present as the mentor of the Spiess Group and the man the company was named after.”
