Design and Development

Spiess Motorenbau GmbH develops, designs and produces complete engines while also specialising in the enhancement of existing power units. The design is executed according to in-house specifications or the individual requirements of our costumers. Inventive spirit, courage, extensive team work and our huge wealth of experience make for innovative results.

Multifaceted competence

The use of Unigraphics Solutions software helps when it comes to optimising new solutions. As all the departments are using the same software as basis for their work, the information flow is smooth and consistent, allowing for bundling, updating and accessing experiences at any time.

The design and development department uses the most sophisticated 3D CAD work stations for the design, development and documentation of all the engine components. A design-accompanying FEM analysis allows for the testing of the components’ stability. It goes without saying that the consistent data exchange with the customer represents an inherent part of every project. This is made possible by all the established interfaces – that ensure a safe communication at the same time.

The CAM module implemented in the CAx system optimises the entire work processes from the first planning to the completed component. Post processors with up to five axes do not only allow for the output formatting in different NC languages but also undertake the mathematical determination of the tool’s axial rotation and its angle related to the component part.

Out there on the racetrack, the smallest mistake can be crucial. Therefore, special emphasis is placed to a gapless and absolutely precise quality control. No part will be installed without having been subjected to an extremely strict examination.

The engines are individual custom products and are assembled in the heart of the company by a highly qualified team. Here, quality instead of quantity represents the yardstick.

Here, the process represented by development and design, production and manufacturing comes full circle. On the test rigs, the components or the entire project have to definitively demonstrate if they meet the highest standards.
