New generation
2002
While the so-called Family-II engine (20XE) has been impressing for more than
twelve years and securing clearly more than 200 race wins in the German Formula
33 Championship alone, the design and testing of the new Opel Formula 3 engine
successfully is completed. 2003 - The year of the widely acclaimed generational
change. The new engine is highly accepted right away - and proves to be successful
from the word go: it wins the season opener and also sets the fastest race lap,
on the way to doing so.
2003
Basing on the German core market of Spiess Motorenbau GmbH and the expansion
on several other markets, such as the American, the Argentinean market also
can be entered, now. The Spiess enhanced 4-cylinder Opel engines now also are
used in touring-car racing, here. At the same time, the Recaro Formula 3 Cup
makes his debut, with all the cars on its grid relying on Spiess tuned power
units.
