Formula 3 Italy
Champion with Spiess power
In Italy, single-seater racing clearly represents the main attraction
in the motor racing world. Therefore, success is particularly important,
there. And even more so if you succeed in winning a title. And again this
feat was achieved with power made in Germany. Or, more precisely: in the
Italian Formula 3 Championship, with an Opel engine tuned by the manufacturer's
long-time partner, Spiess.
At the wheel of his Dallara F304 Opel-Spiess, Team Passoli driver Mauro
Massironi succeeded in winning the 2006 Italian Formula 3 Championship
early, at Vallelunga, one week prior to season finale. And he did so in
impressive style by winning nine of the 16 rounds contested so far and
securing eight pole positions.
To secure the title, the Italian had to prevail against a competitive
field and will be celebrated as the big winner, in the season finale held
at Misano. The 2006 Italian Formula 3 Championship grid usually featured
24 cars, with a big part of the field, eight drivers, relying on the proven
combination Opel-Spiess.
