Formula 3 Euro Series
Successful home event
This weekend at Nuremberg’s Norisring, Marco Wittmann (Dallara-Volkswagen) celebrated a successful Formula 3 Euro Series home event. The 21-year who resides just 40 kilometres from the spectacular street circuit secured to race wins and a third place. “Congratulations to Marco,” said Volkswagen Motorsport Director Kris Nissen, “He delivered in truly outstanding style, this weekend.”
Meanwhile, Volkswagen and their technology partner Spiess came close to also making it to the highest step on the podium in the first race of the weekend. Laurens Vanthoor (Dallara-Volkswagen) had opted for slicks despite the wet conditions and took the lead when the racing line dried more and more. At the end of the day, however, it wasn’t to be. The Belgian received a 30-second time penalty for having ignored yellow flags – and dropped back from first to second position.
“Throughout this weekend, the Volkswagen drivers had what it takes to battle it out at the front end of the field,” added Nissen. “Marco Wittmann gained a lot of ground in the championship and with 12 more races to go, anything is possible. Now, the fight for the title is thrilling again.”
