Formula 3 Euro Series
Early title triumph
Volkswagen and Mortara have made it! At Oschersleben, as early as four weeks prior to the Formula 3 Euro Series season finale, Italian Edoardo Mortara secured the drivers’ championship, with his Dallara-Volkswagen. By winning the title, Mortara made for three premieres: he won the title in the arguably most competitive young-gun series for the first time and at the same time, Team Signature and engine supplier Volkswagen also celebrated their maiden Formula 3 Euro Series titles.
“I’m absolutely delighted and want to congratulate Edoardo wholeheartedly,” says Holger Spiess. “By having won the title, Mortara follows the footsteps of Formula 1 aces such as Lewis Hamilton or Nico Hülkenberg. Spiess Tuning is proud of having contributed to this success.”
In his career, 23-year old Edoardo Mortara already has experienced ups and downs. His biggest success to date was his win in the 2009 Formula 3 world finals in Macau. The Italian was regarded as one of the favourites from the beginning of the 2010 Formula 3 Euro Series season – and he succeeded in meeting these expectations by dominating the series, securing four pole positions and six race wins.
“Being the champion feels just great,” beams Mortara. “Racing for Volkswagen and Signature feels like being a member of a big family. I hope that this success will represent a major boost for my further career.” As reward for his title, the new champion will get the chance of executing a DTM test for Audi.
