One-two in the season highlight

The Spiess-Tuning engineers returned home to Ditzingen with another win and the Formula 3 Euro Series Championship lead under their belts. At the Norisring, the street circuit in the heart of Nuremberg, the Volkswagen power units looked after by Spiess celebrated another successful weekend. “One-two on Saturday and two podiums on Sunday” was the headline of the Volkswagen Motorsport press release.

Thanks to their successes, Italian Edoardo Mortara and Germany’s Marco Wittmann kept on extending their lead in the Formula 3 Euro Series Championship, with Mortara dominating the young-gun series with 54 points on his tally and Wittmann (39) following in second position. Mortara also proved to be the dominating driver at Nuremberg’s street circuit. The 23-year old Team Signature driver won the Saturday round ahead of his team-mate Wittmann, thus securing his third race win of the season.

“We witnessed a truly successful Formula 3 race weekend for Volkswagen,” said Volkswagen motorsport Director Kris Nissen. “Currently, the combination of Team Signature and the Volkswagen engine represents the most competitive package on the grid.”

And Edoardo Mortara said: “A nearly perfect weekend. To have secured 15 of 17 points available is just great. Our team does a fantastic job as our package had what it takes to win on every race weekend contested to date.”
