Formula 3 Euro Series
Magnussen wins on his debut weekend
In the third event of the 2010 Formula 3 Euro Series season, held in Valencia, Volkswagen celebrated back-to-back wins. Italy’s Edoardo Mortara won the race on Whitsun Saturday and on Sunday, Denmark’s Kevin Magnussen won round six of the season.
“I’m particularly delighted about the fact that Kevin Magnussen could celebrate a win on his Formula 3 Euro Series debut weekend,” said Holger Spiess. “He has got loads of potential and definitely is going to make for a lot of excitement, in the Formula 3 Euro Series. The Spiess Motorenbau GmbH boss knows the 17-year old particularly well as he also is attended to by Volkswagen partner Spiess in Germany’s fastest single-seater series, the ATS Formula 3 Cup.
Magnussen shared the Valencia podium with a former ATS Formula 3 Cup driver: Laurens Vanthoor finished third in the Sunday race. “I hope that this is a first success I will be able to tie in with, in the future,” said the reigning ATS Formula 3 Cup Champion. In the Euro Series season to date, the 19-year old Belgian had to cope with several setbacks and incidents through no faults of his own.
“Kevin Magnussen made a fantastic debut,” praised Volkswagen Motorsport Director Kris Nissen. “Points in his first race, the win in the second. I’m truly happy for him and his team, Motopark Academy, that has celebrated its maiden Euro Series win with Volkswagen power.”
