Formula 3 Euro Series
Podium finish for Volkswagen
In their home race at Oschersleben, held on the first weekend in August, Volkswagen secured a podium finish. At the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben, located in the Magdeburger Börde region, just an hour from Wolfsburg, Finland’s Mika Mäki (Dallara-Volkswagen) finished third in the Formula 3 Euro Series race on Sunday.
The 10th round of the planet’s most competitive young-gun series made history. 21 of the 25 drivers received 30-second time penalties for speeding under yellow flags shown due to an accident. So, Christian Vietoris was the lucky race winner.
In the Saturday round, Mäki’s Signature team-mate, Jean Karl Vernay, finished six to add more championship points to his tally. With the first half of the season contested, the 21-year old Frenchman holds third position in the championship. “Just ten of the 20 rounds of the season are over,” said Vernay, “Therefore, my chances in the battle for the title still look promising.”
In a fortnight, the Volkswagen drivers will have their next chance of shining: on 15th and 16th August, the Nürburgring will be the venue of the next two Formula 3 Euro Series rounds.
