Formula 3 Euro Series
Third win of the 2008 season
At Le Mans, France, Robert Wickens secured the third Volkswagen win in the 2008 Formula 3 Euro Series season. In difficult weather conditions, the Canadian won the 18th round of the season at the wheel of his Team Signature entered Dallara-Volkswagen. Wickens is the first Canadian ever to have won a Formula 3 Euro Series race.
“Once again we succeeded in demonstrating that we have got what it takes to also battle it out at the very front of the field on tracks that represent virgin soil for us,” said Volkswagen Motorsport Director Kris Nissen. “Our tally now features three race wins, 13 podiums and 31 other point-finishes – achievements we are really delighted with, in the first full season since having made our comeback as engine supplier. Now we will try to put the icing on the cake represented by this successful season.”
Meanwhile, the Spiess engineers also are about to start their final spurt of the 2008 season. From Le Mans, the Spiess staff travelled – with the service vehicle – directly from Le Mans to Oschersleben. This weekend, the circuit located in the Magdeburger Börde will stage the ATS Formula 3 Cup season finale. In that series, Spiess attends to Team van Amersfoort Racing that recently secured a race win at the Sachsenring, courtesy of young Laurens Vanthoor. And then, the Ditzingen based Spiess crew may look forward to its home race: the Formula 3 Euro Series season finale, held on 25th/26th October at Hockenheim.
