ATS Formula 3 Cup
More races, more excitement
The special engines called Volkswagen Power Engines that are prepared by Spiess Motorenbau GmbH aren’t the only innovation for the 2012 ATS Formula 3 Cup season. At the same time, the regulations also have been altered in several areas. More races, more excitement, increased learning effect and more action for the crowds – that’s how one could describe in short words what is going to happen when the 2012 season of Germany’s fastest single-seater series will be kicked off in a few weeks time.
The season kick-off on 14th and 15th April at Oschersleben will be the first three-race-event in the history of German Formula 3. The new event concept comprises a free practice session on Friday afternoon and a qualifying session on Saturday morning, followed by three races held on Saturday afternoon (30 minutes), Sunday morning (20 minutes) and Sunday afternoon (30 minutes).
As usual, there will be the ATS Formula 3 Cup ranking (for cars built from 2008 to 2011 equipped with the Volkswagen Power Engine) and the ATS Formula 3 Trophy ranking (for cars built from 2002 to 2007 and equipped with conventional Formula 3 engines). And – also as usual – there is the SONAX Rookie-Pokal for Formula 3 newcomers.
The 2012 ATS Formula 3 calendar comprises nine events and 27 races respectively. Seven of the events will be part of the ADAC Masters Weekends, with the other two being held at Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium and Assen, Netherlands.
