ATS Formula 3 Cup
More than 8,000 kilometres in Macau
In 2012, the ATS Formula 3 Cup will solely be contested by single-seaters equipped with Volkswagen Formula 3 engines prepared by Spiess Motorenbau GmbH. The ‘Volkswagen Power Engine’ delivers some 250bhp and features a push-to-pass system, allowing the drivers to temporarily access a dose of extra power.
On 07th November, 2011, the Volkswagen Power Engine completed its final endurance test at Spiess Motorenbau GmbH in great style. On the dynamic test bench of the renowned Ditzingen based tuning experts, the engine had to cope with an extensive and sophisticated testing programme, simulating 1,300 laps at the extremely demanding Macau street circuit. In the tests, the new Formula 3 power unit covered more than 8,000 kilometres in realistic conditions. “On our highly dynamic AVL test bench we can simulate every imaginable situation,” explained Holger Spiess. “Before being delivered, every single engine is subjected to a significant testing programme. Our company guarantees that all the engines supplied deliver on the same level, with the maximum deviation accepted adding up to 2bhp.”
The first copies of new, trend setting power unit will be delivered to the ATS Formula 3 Cup teams as early as mid-November.
