ATS Formula 3 Cup
Superior win
In the 2011 ATS Formula 3 Cup season finale, two winners took their positions on the podium: the new champion, Richie Stanaway (Dallara Volkswagen) – and the man who made a major contribution to this success: Holger Spiess. Following the season finale, the CEO of Spiess Motorenbau GmbH presented the deserved champion who secured the title for team Van Amersfoort Racing with his trophies.
Richie Stanaway truly dominated the 2011 ATS Formula 3 Cup season. The Kiwi won 13 of the 18 races, secured 10 pole positions and set eight fastest race laps. Due to these successes, Holger Spiess whose company has been attending to the technology of the Volkswagen engines for several years, now, praised: “I rarely witnessed a similarly dominating performance as the one delivered by Richie Stanaway this year. When it comes to his ambitions, he reminds me of Michael Schumacher who also was attended to by Spiess engineers, in his Formula 3 days.”
At the end of the season, Richie Stanaway had 181 points on his tally, thus finishing clearly ahead of vice champion Marco Sörensen (126 points). Within the frame of the season finale, the new champion was celebrated in style. It goes without saying that Volkswagen Motorsport Director Kris Nissen also was on site – and the same applied to DMSB President Thorsten Johne and ADAC Sports President Herman Tomczyk.
Nonetheless, Richie Stanaway’s Formula 3 days aren’t quite over, yet. On 20th November, 2011, he is going to contest the Formula 3 World finals at Macau. And there, the Spiess engineers once again will support the gifted Kiwi with their know-how. Holger Spiess: “I’m convinced that Stanaway’s chances of also securing a top result at Macau are extremely good.”
