ATS Formula 3 Cup
To win the title you must be
powered by Volkswagen
Richie Stanaway has made another huge step on the way to winning his most important motor-racing title so far. Race weekend by race weekend, the Kiwi gets closer to winning the 2011 ATS Formula 3 Cup title and he also succeeded in shining at the Red Bull Ring, located in Austria’s Styria region. At the wheel of his Dallara Volkswagen – perfectly attended to by the Spiess Motorenbau GmbH engineers – the 19-year old won both races, secured both pole positions and set a fastest race lap.
During the course of the race weekend at the Red Bull Ring (13th/14th August), the drivers had to cope with both wet and dry conditions – but the Kiwi didn’t mind the conditions. He is at the very front of the field whenever the cars go out. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that he has won nine of the twelve races contested so far.
So, one thing is clear as early as now: if you want to win the title, being powered by Volkswagen is a must. The successful Formula 3 engine definitely represents the benchmark in Germany’s fastest single-seater series. With six more races to go and a 25-point lead over the second-placed driver, Denmark’s Marco Sörensen (92 points), winning the title now seems to be just a walk in the park, for the Stanaway (117 points).
The coming two ATS Formula 3 Cup rounds will be contested on 03rd/04th September at the Lausitzring.
