ATS Formula 3 Cup
Triumph in dramatic season finale
What a season finale! The final round of the 2010 ATS Formula 3 Cup season proved to be a true thriller. And in the end, Tom Dillman was the man to secure the title – and he deserved it. Throughout the season in the fastest German single-seater series, the 21-year old Frenchman had to battle it out with rookie Daniel Abt but at the end of the day he prevailed. Meanwhile, one thing was clear as early as prior to the Oschersleben weekend: the new champion would win his title at the wheel of a Dallara Volkswagen.
“I’m really delighted that once again a power unit prepared by our company could contribute to a title triumph in a significant race series,” said Holger Spiess at the presentation ceremony in the evening. “I’d like to congratulate Tom Dillmann – but also young Daniel Abt who truly convinced me with his performances, this year.”
The end-of-season gala held in the hotel of Motorsport Arena Oschersleben was attended by some 200 guests – such as ADAC Sports President Hermann Tomczyk and Volkswagen Motorsport Director Kris Nissen – who had come to celebrate the drivers and raise their glasses to a successful season.
At the same time, the course for the future also was set at Oschersleben: from 2012, the ATS Formula 3 Cup will be contested by an exclusive control engine supplied by Volkswagen. The motto: more power, reduced costs. The new Volkswagen engine that also will be prepared by the proven race-engine designers Spiess Tuning will deliver about 250bhp and feature a ‘Push-to-Pass’ system to make for even more overtaking manoeuvres and excitement in the ATS Formula 3 Cup.
