ATS Formula 3 Cup
A rookie causes a stir
Holger Spiess returned home to Ditzingen with an extremely happy winner smile on his face. At Assen, Netherlands, the teams he attended to proved to race in a class of their own. In the seventh round of the 2010 ATS Formula 3 Cup season, all the top five position were secured by Volkswagen powered cars. And in round eight on Sunday, the Wolfsburger’s camp did even better by making for a pure Volkswagen top six.
The ATS Formula 3 Cup is as thrilling as rarely in the past. The eight races contested to date were won by six different drivers, the competition is extremely tough and the racing at the front end of the field closer than ever. A situation last year’s runner-up, Stef Dusseldorp, also has to learn to cope with. The Dutchman was regarded as top favourite for the 2010 season and had set himself the goal to secure the title but currently, he has to make do with fourth position in the championship. Ahead of him lies not only the experienced Formula 3 ace Tom Dillmann (France) but also the rookies Daniel Abt (Germany) and Kevin Magnussen (Denmark). And Abt, the only 17-year old son of DTM Team Principal Hans-Jürgen Abt from Kempten, even holds the championship lead. Not bad for a Formula 3 rookie, isn’t it?
So, you may look forward to the next two thrilling rounds that will be held this weekend at the Nürburgring, in the support programme of the Truck Grand Prix. And you may rely on the ATS Formula 3 Cup young guns also providing the many thousands of motor racing enthusiasts at the Nürburgring a great show. Wanna bet?
