Laurens Vanthoor keeps on accelerating on the way to the biggest success of his career to date: the ATS Formula 3 Cup title. With six more races to go, the Belgian Dallara Volkswagen driver now holds a 53-point lead over his second-placed team-mate, Stef Dusseldorp. Consequently, preventing the 18-year old from securing the title early will be extremely difficult as there are just 72 more points to be scored.

At Assen, the dominant championship leader again could rely on proven material and the optimum support by the Spiess engineers – and therefore experienced a perfect race weekend: 24 points for two race wins, two pole positions and two fastest race laps. The absolute maximum available on an ATS Formula 3 Cup weekend.

“I’m absolutely delighted with having succeeded in celebrating this success just here at the TT Circuit. After all, it is the venue of the home event for my team, Van Amersfoort Racing, and they invited some 150 guests to join them for the weekend,” beamed Vanthoor.

For the fifth consecutive time, the ATS Formula 3 Cup was a vital part of Assen’s Rizla Race Day. The successful event celebrated its 10th anniversary, on 08th and 09th August – and the fastest German single-seater series represents a constant of its programme. As usual, the admission was free and some 57,000 motor-racing enthusiasts travelled to Assen and were inspired by the race action. After all, the Rizla Race Day features a varied programme with Formula 3, Super-Karts, touring cars and Superbikes.
