ATS Formula 3 Cup
Extra points and race win
Pole-Position, fastest race lap, race win - for Spiess Tuning,
the ATS Formula 3 Cup weekend at the Hockenheimring proved to be a sweeping
success. In the seventh and eight rounds of the fastest German single-seater
series 2008 season, both the Volkswagen engines and the OPC-Challenge power
units delivered in outstanding style.
On Saturday, 14th June, young Belgian Laurens Vanthoor clinched
his maiden Formula 3 pole position, with his Volkswagen powered Dallara. The
17-year old also made a good start but later in the race, a mistake cost him
his chance of claiming victory. While his team-mate, Rahel Frey, clocked the
fastest race lap in the Sunday round. Just as Vanthoor. The 22-year old Swiss
also races a Dallara Volkswagen for reigning champions Van Amersfoort Racing.
In round eight, taking place in torrential rain making for extremely
difficult conditions, Frédéric Vervisch celebrated his second win in 2008. The
Belgian relies on the OPC-Challenge engine designed by Spiess Motorenbau GmbH
exclusively for the ATS Formula 3 Cup. Following this success, Verwisch lies
just four points behind current championship leader Matteo Chinosi, at season
halftime.
The season will be continued on the first weekend of August.
Then, the ATS Formula 3 Cup young guns will have to prove there skills at Assen,
Netherlands.
