ATS Formula 3 Cup
Impressive exotic fraction
The 2008 ATS Formula 3 Cup grid features numerous drivers from
exotic countries. For the first time in the history of German Formula 3 racing,
the nations Colombia, Ukraine, Bahrain and Indonesia are involved. Altogether,
the 29-driver grid comprises young guns from 16 different countries. "This is
a clear proof of the fact that our national Formula 3 series also is appreciated
abroad," says Bertram Schäfer, the ATS Formula 3 Cup organiser.
Nearly two thirds of the 2008 ATS Formula 3 Cup field relies
on power units that have been tuned by Ditzingen based Spiess Motorenbau GmbH.
And this also applies to the newest asset on the series' grid: Satiro Hermanto
from Jakarta, Indonesia, who is going to make his F3 Cup debut on 14th and 15th
June in Hockenheim - at the wheel of a Dallara F307 OPC-Challenge.
While you would rather expect drivers from countries such as
Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Belgium or Austria to contest a German single-seater
series, the likes of Johnny Cecotto from Venezuela, Colombia's Sebastian Saavedra,
Karline Stala from Latvia, Brazilian Rafael Suzuki or Bahrain's Hamad Al Fardan
represent a somewhat unusual sight on the grid of a German series. The fact
that they all race in the ATS Formula 3 Cup, nevertheless, underlines the extraordinary
significance and the motor-racing meaning of the ATS Formula 3 Cup that was
created back in 2003 as successor of the legendary International German Formula
3 Championship.
