ATS Formula 3 Cup
On the way up
The runner-up of the 2007 season is back! Frédéric Vervisch has
secured his first win in the 2008 ATS Formula 3 Cup season. With his Dallara
F307 OPC Challenge entered by Swiss Racing Team, the Belgian prevailed in one
of the rounds held in the support programme of the 36th Nürburgring 24-Hour
Race.
"I'm truly delighted that I made it back to the road to victory
just in the season highlight," he said on Friday evening, following his success.
"I never stopped believing in me, the team - and the Spiess technology. After
all, we are racing the OPC Challenge engine that was designed by Spiess extra
for the Formula 3 Cup. I had no problems whatsoever keeping the competition
at bay. It wasn't an easy race but my win never was jeopardised, nevertheless."
With 6 of the 18 races contested, Vervisch now holds second position in the
championship.
More than 200,000 motor-racing enthusiasts travelled to the Eifel
region to celebrate a huge motor-sport festival on the Corpus Christi weekend.
And the ATS Formula 3 Cup represents an inherent part of this unique event.
Therefore, the series also was involved in the Adenauer Racing Day action. Rahel
Frey and Laurens executed spectacular demonstration laps - right in the city
centre of the small Eifel town Adenau. Both are driving Dallara F307 single-seaters
powered by the Volkswagen F3 engine that also bears the fingerprints of the
Spiess engineers.
