ATS Formula 3 Cup
All about three
In the German Formula 3 scene, Spiess Motorenbau GmbH succeeded in winning
everything there was to won. In all the three rankings, the three top-placed
drivers were powered by Spiess tuned engines: in the ATS Formula 3 Cup,
the ATS Formula 3 Trophy and the ZF-auto motor und sport-Juniorpokal.
With his Dallara OPC-Challenge, Carlo van Dam secured the ATS Formula
3 Cup Championship title early, two weeks prior to the season finale.
The 21-year old from Rotterdam won an impressive nine of the 18 races,
thus helping his team, Van Amersfort Racing, to make it to the very top,
once again. Nine years ago, the squad secured the German championship
with Bas Leinders and also did so with a Spiess tuned Opel power unit.
In the ATS Formula 3 Trophy, Michael Klein prevailed. At the wheel of
his Dallara OPC-Challenge entered by Team HS Technik, Klein secured the
Trophy title. Yet, the 19-year old from Dischingen, Germany, had to wait
until the final race weekend of the season, held at Oschersleben in late
September, was over before he could celebrate his Trophy triumph. At the
end of the day, Klein had eleven points more on his tally than his closest
rival, Marcel Schuler.
The 2007 ZF-auto motor und sport-Juniorpokal was won by Carlo van Dam.
The Dutchman proved to be the undisputed rookie of the year. The Juniorpokal
(Junior Cup) is endowed with €10,000 and offered by automotive supplier
ZF Friedrichshafen AG and the German journal 'auto motor und sport'. 14
rookies succeeded in scoring points, this season.
