RECARO Formula 3 Cup
Ho-Pin Tung: Champion with
Opel-Spiess power
Following Harald Schlegelmilch's early title triumph in the RECARO Formula
3 Trophy, the RECARO Formula 3 Cup title now also has been secured. And
again, the title was won early - by Ho-Pin Tung. The young Chinese residing
in the Netherlands also achieved this major success with an Opel engine
and thanks to the tuning efforts of Spiess. At the Salzburgring, Austria,
the 23-year old Asian clinched the title by finishing runner-up in the
weekend's first round and winning the second.
Hence, Harald Schlegelmilch's team, HS Technik, and Ho-Pin Tung's JB
Motorsport may be regarded as the winners of the season when the RECARO
Formula 3 Cup will travel to Oschersleben for its season finale, held
in late September. When it comes to the rookie rankings, however, the
circuit located in the Magdeburger Börde region will be the venue of the
title decision. But it looks as if the rookie title of Germany's fastest
single-seater series will also be secured by the successful cooperation
Opel-Spiess, as the reliable and confident Harald Schlegelmilch holds
the lead in this ranking, too.
Following the creation of the RECARO Formula 3 Cup, back in 2003, the
championship has been won by the Opel-Spiess engine package four consecutive
times. Three times with a Dallara chassis and now, in 2006, for the first
time with a Lola chassis. A success of the British chassis manufacturer
that will be highly appreciated.
