RECARO Formula 3 Cup
Remarkable success for Schlegelmilch
While delighted French GP winner Michael Schumacher conducted the first
bars of the national anthem on the Magny-Cours podium, Harald Schlegelmilch
did the same with the Latvian anthem, at Assen. The 18-year old from Riga
really had made it: at the wheel of the previous spec of a Formula 3 car,
he succeeded in winning the 12th round of the 2006 RECARO Formula 3 Cup
season, with an Opel engine having powered Schlegelmilch's Dallara F304
to this major success. The car's airbox is decorated with the name of
the engine tuner, 'Spiess', while the team's name, 'HS Technik Motorsport',
is written on the cockpit sides.
In the RECARO Formula 3 Trophy, that was created as extra ranking for
elder cars like the on raced by Harald Schlegelmilch, the Latvian is a
well established force anyway and holds the lead. While the fact that
he is able to also secure overall wins, now, is a proof of his talent,
the preparation of the team and the powerful Opel-Spiess unit.
In the forthcoming two rounds, the Eastside 100 held at the EuroSpeedway
Lausitz, Harald Schlegelmilch will have a great chance of shining again.
The RECARO F3 Cup is Europe's only single-seater series to contest an
oval race. These races will be contested at an average speed of about
250kp/h, with the rather small difference between the cars being negligible
as the aerodynamics and the drivers' courage will be the key factors in
the slipstream battles.
