RECARO Formula 3 Cup
Devaney slowly closes in
Peter Elkmann's lead is massive, however, not yet comforting. The German
still holds the lead in the RECARO F3 Cup, but Michael Devaney is on the
way to close in on him. In the eleventh and twelfth rounds of the season,
held at the Nürburgring, the Irishman succeeded in reducing Elkmann's
lead.
Behind the wheel of his Dallara Opel-Spiess entered by Team JB Motorsport,
Devaney won both rounds to close in on Elkmann and keep his title chances
alive. With six more races to go and 72 points to score, he lies now 36
points behind the championship leader. Yet, whoever will win the title,
one thing is clear: just as it was the case in the previous two seasons,
the winner of the third REACARO Formula 3 Cup season will also be powered
by an Opel engine that was tuned by the Ditzingen based expert Spiess,
as Peter Elkmann also relies on this successful cooperation. He races
a Dallara Opel-Spiess entered by the team of Swiss Jo Zeller.
At the end of the eleventh round, Michael Devaney shared the podium with
Elkmann (runner-up) and 19-year old Pascal Kochem. On Sunday, Chinese
driver Ho-Pin Tung (runner-up) and Martin Hippe from Essen, Germany, joined
the winner on the rostrum.
The forthcoming two RCARO Formula 3 Cup rounds will be held already this
weekend. The Formula 3 races will be the highlight of the Rizla Racing
Days at Assen, taking place the first weekend in August. The admission
is free and the event's action packed programme is expected to attract
some 40.000 motor racing enthusiasts. And quite obviously, the guys on
the RECARO Formula 3 Cup grid will be keen on providing the crowds an
appropriate show.
