Formula 3 Australia
Superior Champion
Ben Clucas succeeded in securing the Australian Formula 3 Championship
in dominant style. The Briton secured the title early after having won
eleven of the first twelve rounds of the season. In late August, after
having won the round at Philip Island, his lead was that big that none
of his opponents had a chance to re-close the gap.
For Spiess Motorenbau GmbH, this success means another championship for
the company's impressive title collection. "Quite obviously, we are delighted
that Ben Clucas and his team, BRM, prevailed in such a superior manner,"
said Holger Spiess. "Particularly as there is a tough competition in the
engine area, in Australia. After all, there are three other engine manufacturers
on the grid of the series, apart from our Opel-Spiess engine."
BRM (Bronte Rundle Motorsport) is a successful long-term customer of
Ditzingen based Spiess. In the past five years, the team secured three
Australian Formula 3 Championship titles. "I'd like to thank my entire
team and all our partners," said Team Principal Bronte Rundle. "Without
their extraordinary know-how and their consequent commitment, our success
certainly wouldn't have been that dominant."
For Ben Clucas, whose Dallara F304 Opel-Spiess contested the season with
the No 84, it was "A great year. The Formula 3 Championship is a really
prestigious one, in Australia. And the fact that I succeeded in winning
the title just in the 50th year of the championship's existence makes
the success taste even a little sweeter."
The Australian Formula 3 Championship's finale, featuring rounds 15 and
16, will be held at the final weekend of October, at Oran Park.
