Holger Spiess lectures at the ‘TU Berlin’
The know-how of Spiess-Motorenbau GmbH is in great demand not
only at the racetrack alone. Holger Spiess, the company’s CEO, for instance,
has been giving lectures at the Technical University (TU) Berlin for many years,
now. “Working with the young technicians is fun,” reveals Holger
Spiess. “And it often pays off. Several TU Berlin students later opted
for joining Spiess-Motorenbau GmbH.” The latest example: A former head
of the TU Berlin’s Formula Student project works today at the Spiess engine-test
rigs in Ditzingen as application engineer.
On 18th May, the TU Berlin syllabus once again featured the topic ‘Technology and Management in Motor Racing’. Volker Strycek, formerly Opel Motorsport Director and today the AvD Sports President, gave a lecture about the planning tasks in the run-up to an endurance race – while Bosch Engineering explained the mode of operation of an anti-lock brake system in motor racing. Holger Spiess’ topic: ‘The basics of the racing-engine design’. In his two-and-a-half-hour lecture he used the example of the design of DTM engines to teach the students a lot. The one-day seminar was attended by more than 30 students.
