Carlin dominates tests at Snetterton
The engineers of the Spiess Group are involved in three Formula 3 series with global significance. In the Formula 3 Euro Series, the ATS Formula 3 Cup and the British Formula 3 Championship they attend to the teams equipped with the two-litre Volkswagen engines – and it goes without saying that they also do so during the official tests.
In the British Formula 3 Championship tests held recently at Snetterton, Team Carlin clearly outpaced the rest of the field. On both days of testing held in early April, the Carlin drivers proved to be benchmark, at the wheel of their Volkswagen-Dallara single-seaters. On day one (05th April) at the 4.78-kilometre circuit, Denmark’s Kevin Magnussen set the fastest lap time by crossing the line in 1:39.521 minutes. Magnussen is going to contest the 2011 British Formula 3 Championship as reigning ATS Formula 3 Cup Rookie of the Year. The son of former Formula 1 ace Jan Magnussen is regarded as one of title favourites in the tradition-rich championship. And on 06th April, Magnussen’s team-mate Carlos Huertas proved to be the quickest of the 20 drivers on site, with his 1:40.115-Minute lap. Behind the Colombian, Magnussen again set a highly competitive lap time to finish second on the time sheets.
The British Formula 3 Championship is going to kick off its 2011 season on 16th and 17th April at Monza, the venue of the Italian Formula 1 Grand Prix. And in mid-May, the series will be back in Snetterton.
