Wins in Germany’s Eifel region and at Assen
Simultaneously and just a few hundred kilometres apart from each other, the Formula 3 drivers powered by Volkswagen celebrated major successes. At the Nürburgring, Italian Edoardo Mortara and Portugal’s Antonio Felix da Costa prevailed in the Formula 3 Euro Series races while Dutchman Stef Dusseldorp and Sweden’s Felix Rosenquist were the winners of the ATS Formula 3 Cup rounds held at Assen, Netherlands. And both in the Eifel region and at the Dutch TT Circuit, the Spiess engineers did a good job.
“A great weekend for the teams and drivers relying on Volkswagen power,” said Volkswagen Motorsport Director Kris Nissen afterwards. “With our two one-twos, we have defended and even extended our championship leads. It was another step to realising our goal – to win the Formula 3 Euro Series. But there still is a long way to go.”
In the ATS Formula 3 Cup, however, you already can take it for granted that the new champion will be a driver of a Volkswagen powered Dallara Formula 3 car. With six more races to go, the top-five positions in the championship all are held by drivers who wear the Volkswagen logo on their racing overalls. While Markus Pommer, the best Dallara-Mercedes driver, holds six position in the championship – 62 points behind the current leader, Frenchman Tom Dillmann.
