Manufacturer title STW
When it came to securing the first Super Touring Car Championship
(STW) manufacturers' title in the German motor-racing history, in 1998, Opel
and Spiess were the ones to do so. Up to then, the popular touring car series
of the 1990s didn't feature an official championship title announced by the
motor-racing authorities. And the successful cooperation of car manufacturer
and professional tuner proved to be successful right away, in the new championship.
When the season was over, the four works Vectras had secured the manufacturers'
title - powered by the 300bhp Opel 2-litre 16-valve engines designed by Spiess.
