Third place in DTM - winner in the
Formula
3
Brilliant sunshine, a gorgeous backdrop, thrilling motor racing - the
event held at Zandvoort at the last weekend in August turned out to be
a fantastic show, with Opel celebrating a major success in DTM and even
securing a win in the Formula 3 Euro Series, with Opel-Spiess.
77,000 motor racing enthusiasts celebrated the first rookie to win a
race in the 2005 season of Europe's most competitive Formula 3 series.
On Saturday, Guillaume Moreau outclassed the entire Formula 3 Euro Series
field behind the wheel of his Dallara Opel-Spiess entered by Team Signature.
"I'm overjoyed," said the French young gun. "It feels just fantastic to
have won a Formula 3 Euro Series round." And Moreau wasn't the only Opel
driver on the podium, as third place was taken by Franck Perera who also
relies on the power delivered by the Opel-Spiess power unit. A result
he clinched following a fighting performance, in the 15th round of the
season. From his eighth position on the grid, he worked his way up to
third place.
The same result was secured in DTM by former Formula One ace Heinz-Harald
Frentzen. For Frentzen, who had also finished third in the round held
at Brno, Czech Republic, this result represented his second podium finish
in the season so far. "We are very happy with Heinz-Harald Frentzen's
podium finish: he worked very hard and deserved this result," said Opel's
Motorsport Director, Volker Strycek. According to Frentzen, this success
was mainly achieved by the team's successful set-up work. "When we succeed
in finding a working set-up for the Vectra GTS V8, things work fine,"
said the German. "We proved this fact in the qualifying and did it again,
in the race."
With the Dutch DTM round being over, the series' next race weekend will
be held on 17th and 18th September at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz.
